Progressive will offer RV and motorcycle insurance

New%20Picture%20%2863%29.jpg

The Progressive Group of Cos., the Ohio firm that sells insurance under the Progressive brand name, said it will offer insurance to Massachusetts owners of motorcycles and recreational vehicles, or RVs.

progressive406.jpgProgressive first started offering car insurance in Massachusetts last May. Last year, the state changed its rules for insurers.

"Progressive motorcycle insurance is available for a wide range of bike types including Harleys, sport bikes, and scooters," the company said in a press release. "Coverage is also available for off-road vehicles including golf carts, snowmobiles, and ATVs."

Last year, Massachusetts adopted a competitive auto insurance system. Previously, insurance rates were largely set by the state; Massachusetts was the last state to have such a system.

The image of motorcycle riders that appears with this post was taken from Progressive's website. And the photo of Flo, who stars in the company's ads, was provided by Progressive.

Don't waste money on futile insurance policies - warns consumer body

People are wasting millions of pounds on pointless insurance policies, a consumer group will claim today.

Which? will give warning that consumers could be unnecessarily spending thousands of pounds each for the sake of “peace of mind” on obscure policies that they do not really need.

The group said that although car, home and life insurance are must-haves, other policies are unnecessary and riddled with clauses that make it almost impossible to make a successful claim. Industry experts said that the increasing strain on household budgets means that people should offload policies that they do not need.

The Which? hit-list of the top five most unnecessary types of insurance includes identity theft insurance, mobile phone cover, extended warranties and accidental death and injury cover, as well as the controversial payment protection insurance (PPI), which is usually sold alongside a loan to protect the borrower if they cannot meet repayments.

The warning will deal a further blow to the £5 billion PPI industry after the Financial Services Authority fined HFC, an insurance division of HSBC, £1million for mis-selling the cover. PPI cover typically pays out on only 20 per cent of all claims. After a two-year investigation, the Office of Fair Trading referred the sale of PPI to the Competition Commission.

Which? says that identity theft cover, which has been heavily promoted by banks in the wake of the loss of personal details by HM Revenue & Customs, is unnecessary, because banks must pay out for ID fraud losses under the terms of the banking code.

Standard life insurance policies usually already cover accidental death, while mobile phone insurance, which can cost as much as £5 a month, is covered by most standard home contents policies. However, car insurance is a legal requirement if you own a vehicle and home insurance has become increasingly important to properties susceptible to flooding.

Claudia Dyer, editor of Which?'s Money Saving Handbook, said: “You can buy yourself insurance to cover yourself against almost any conceivable risk - even alien abduction. The insurance industry's favourite phrase is ‘peace of mind', but it uses this to justify policies that cost a lot and are almost impossible to claim against.”

Although insurance experts typically warn homeowners not to risk scrimping on insurance, the emergence of increasingly unusual policies on the market has led some to admit that not all insurance is a must.

Anyone under pressure from higher household costs, including energy price rises and higher mortgage repayments, is advised to get rid of any unnecessary policies to ease the strain on their budgets.

Richard Mason, head of insurance at moneysupermarket.com, the price comparison website, said: “Car insurance is a legal requirement, while home insurance is required to get a mortgage. After that, pet, life and private medical insurance are only good to have if you can afford it, but can go if you can't.”

Bizarre car insurance claims; 'raining apples wrecked my car'

21/01/2008
Bizarre car insurance claims raining apples wrecked my car Car insurance claims are being made every day, and more often than not they are for everyday bumps and bangs, but the AA has revealed that sometimes they are all the more unusual.

After studying more than 180,000 car insurance claims received in 2007, AA Insurance has revealed some of the more bizarre claims made by its customers. One man was taken by surprise when he experienced a rather unusual downpour – a forklift truck lost its load and it was raining apples on his car, while Mrs P didn’t know what had hit her when a delivery lorry lost all the shopping trolleys it was transporting and sent them hurtling towards her bonnet.

And Mrs R was shocked to find a bull on the top of her car. The confused animal has crashed through a fence and landed on her car, making a huge dent in the bonnet – the car was left in an awful state, but luckily Mrs R and the bull were fine.

Another AA customer got a more thorough clean than he had bargained for when during a car wash, one of the brushes got stuck; he opened the door of his car to press the emergency button and the machine jammed, writing off both the car and the carwash and soaking him in the process.

And one unfortunate motorist just couldn't hold back a sneeze – unfortunately it resulted in him crashing into a church wall.

"We’re used to seeing the countless conventional claims for car damage but it’s always interesting to hear the more bizarre claims people make," said Janet Pell, head of AA car insurance.

"It just goes to show, you need to ensure you’re covered for all eventualities, however far-fetched they might seem," she said.

Discount Auto Insurance For Under-25 Drivers

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Chimezirim_Chinecherem_Odimba]Chimezirim Chinecherem Odimba

Under-25 drivers pay the highest rates as far as age group is concerned. The reason for this is not far-fetched. They have the highest crash rate of all age groups. However, there are ways you can get discounts on your auto insurance even if you're an under-25 driver...

Make sure you maintain an excellent driving record. Every traffic violation counts negatively as far as getting discount auto insurance is concerned. Make sure you obey all traffic rules and you'll be in a better position to get discounts.

If you're still in college you can get discounts for good grades in school. Insurers have found out that there is a correlation between excellent grades and responsible behavior among young persons. They believe that students who maintain a minimum of B's are usually more responsible on the road. This makes them better risks than their counterparts.

You can also get savings on your auto insurance if you stay on your parents' policy. For this to work you'd have to register the car in their name and also live with them. If you prefer your "independence" then this is certainly not a way to get discounts.

Another easy way of reducing your costs is ensuring you use a car that has a high safety rating. Along these lines also make sure the car you use is such that costs little to maintain and has a low theft rate. If your car has a combination of these you'll get reasonable discounts on your auto insurance policy.

Finally, you can save a bundle by getting and comparing quotes from five or more quotes sites. This is about the most effective and fastest way to save. This is especially true for under-25 drivers because the disparity in rate quotes could be as huge as several thousand dollars. So get those quotes now. They are free, quick and easy!

Here are great pages for auto insurance quotes... [http://quality-insurance-4-less.com/Auto-quote-cheap-car-insurance.html#Hometownquotes ]Auto Insurance Quotes [http://quality-insurance-4-less.com/Auto-CA-insurance-quote.html#InsureMe ]InsureMe Auto Insurance Quotes

Get Cheap Auto Insurance For Your Teen Son

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sher_Matsen]Sher Matsen

Your son has just obtained his license and with that a new found sense of freedom. Now you ask how to get cheap auto insurance for my son ? Car insurances can vary dramatically in price so read on to learn how to buy car insurance that is affordable for your teen drivers.

Because teens lack driving experience insurers consider them a high risk to insure and thus the premiums assigned are much higher than an adults insurance rates would be. There are a few things you can do to help reduce the rates you pay for your teen drivers.

First you need to stress to them how important it is for them to keep a clean driving record. That means driving safely – no speeding tickets, no traffic violations, and no accidents. Over a period of time there safe driving will be rewarded with lower premiums.

You can also reduce their rates by purchasing insurance with a higher deductible. The higher the deductible is the lower the premium is.

If you are going to be purchasing a vehicle for your teen choose a vehicle that is built well with extra safety features, and do not choose a vehicle that falls into a sports class or higher risk rating class. Be sure to check the class the vehicle falls into.

The graduated licensing laws have come into effect in most states in the USA and some provinces in Canada. The rules will vary from one location to another but the basic underlying philosophy is to restrict new drivers by limiting what their license will allow them to do.

They may be issued a full auto license such as a class 5 but there is usually a letter designation behind it to indicate they are a new driver. These new drivers have nighttime driving restrictions, vehicle occupant restrictions, and a 0 alcohol tolerance restriction to name just a few. They will also be required to take an additional test after a specific period of time to remove them from the new driver programmer.

But you’re still wondering where to get cheap auto insurance for my son? Teenage drivers can dramatically reduce the cost of insurance by purchasing a stand alone policy from an agency that specializes in providing teen insurance. A stand alone policy means they are not added as an additional driver on your insurance but rather carry their own insurance.

These insurance companies reduce their risk for insuring teens by placing certain concessions on the driving habits of them. They may require driving school, no driving after dark, or various other restrictions which allow them to keep the premiums lower for teen drivers.

The statistics for teen drivers aren’t good. A 16 year old driver is 10 times more likely to get into an accident than an adult between the ages of 30 and 59, so you can see why insurance companies are hesitant to provide good rates.

The best thing you can do for your teenager and his or her insurance rates is to teach responsibility and make them accountable. Make them earn your trust for the use of the car, and make them accountable to pay at least a portion of their insurance premiums. They can do this by working a part time job which also breeds maturity, so it’s a win-win all the way.

You and your teenager are thrilled with the new found freedom for both of you. So now you need to do your homework and research teen insurance rates so you can get them on the road. What are you waiting for?

Online Auto Insurance May Not Be Best For You

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jon_Arnold]Jon Arnold

Many people may not like the idea of using online auto insurance, but this begs the question of why. Let's face it, the only time you need to take advantage of your car insurance policy is when you have a claim to make or an accident. Other than that, it probably does not make any difference to you whether your car insurance agent lives next door or lives on Mars, as long as you can get your claim processed.

Some people are also afraid of being taken in by a scam. While that is a valid concern, it is really no more valid than having that same concern about buying something at a department store or at the mall. Insurance is a regulated industry and there are laws in place to protect you, as long as you know what you are buying and understand the coverage that it entitles you to.

Like anything else, you should do some research on the online car insurance company you are considering using. Do they have a good reputation? How much are their net assets worth? And the most important part, if you need to make a claim, what is the procedure and is there someone locally who can file the claim and get it processed?

These are all excellent questions that you should think about, but they are every bit as valid even if you are purchasing auto insurance from the company down the street from where you live. Do you really know them? Can you answer these questions with 100% confidence about the local insurance company compared to the online insurance company?

Another area of concern is really making sure you are comparing apples to apples when you are comparing quotes. Some of the factors that come into play when determining your car insurance rate are things like the maximum amount that would be paid out for hospitalization in case of an accident, or the amount of deductible that you are responsible for in the case of theft.

For example, if one quote has a maximum of $50,000 for hospitalization and the other one is quoting $5 million, do you see where one is going to cost you less? If one has a deductible of $300 for theft and another has a theft deductible of $2500, are you seeing where comparing these two policies is a waste of time because you are not comparing apples to apples?

Do not assume that you are going to get the best rates possible on car insurance by using an online auto insurance quote. If you have been a good customer of your current carrier for a long time, there is a possibility that they will provide a very aggressive quote so that they can keep you as a customer, which may be better than your online quote.

Make sure you are comparing the same things when comparing policies, but by all means shop around. You don't want to pay more than you need to, and the only way to feel confident that you are getting the best deal possible is to get quotes from different companies, both online and offline, and see which one really wants your business.

How to Compare Online Auto Insurance Quotes

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Chris_Robertson]Chris Robertson

Car insurance is one thing you can't afford to be without. It's not only a legal requirement, but also gives you protection for your automotive investment in case of an accident. Unfortunately, finding car insurance that works for you and fits your budget is not so easy.

Perhaps you live in a small town where there are not many choices for auto insurance. Or, maybe the nearest car insurance company is an hour away from your home! Many consumers are choosing more convenient routes today, such as online auto insurance. It's convenient and often more affordable. Use the tips below to compare quotes and find the right company for you.

Finding Online Car Insurance Companies

Before you can compare car insurance quotes, you must know where to look for companies. There are two ways to find and compare quotes. One way is to search online with Google, Yahoo, or other search engines to find individual companies using certain keywords. The types of keywords to consider are your state name, type of insurance you'll need, and something to indicate that you want a free quote.

For example:

Arkansas auto insurance free quote

- or -

Pennsylvania car insurance quote

Using specific keywords helps narrow your search so you can compare only those companies within your state.

Another way to compare various offers is to visit a website portal that offers quotes for different companies. An online auto insurance portal enables you to comparison shop quickly without visiting numerous sites. Find a site that offers quotes from many major insurance chains along with several small independent companies so you can do a proper quote comparison.

Look at More than the Quote

Consider all aspects of the offer - not merely the price quote. Find out what type of coverage is available at that price. Will the quote cover collision and liability for your automobile? How much coverage is available for accidents in which a person is injured or killed? The lowest car insurance quote may only cover the bare necessities, but may not cover other needs that are important to you.

Another thing to consider is the type of premium payment methods available with each company. Some companies require you to mail a check. Some allow you to pay by automatic direct withdrawal from your checking account or a credit card. Some companies provide online payment methods with a secure login account. Still others might want you to call in your payment with a credit card by phone. Also, consider when your due date will fall. Will you pay at the beginning, middle, or end of the month? Will you pay premiums monthly, quarterly, or yearly?

Online Auto Insurance Coverage for Other Vehicles

If you need insurance coverage for other vehicles, such as motorcycles and boats, you might benefit if the company offers services for each of these. Some companies will combine your payments or even lower your premium for multiple policies. This makes it easier to keep up with your insurance and might save you money.

Paying More for Guaranteed Service

An online car insurance company that offers lower quotes might not always be the best candidate. If you pay $200 less per year, but can't get a claim processed in a prompt manner, it's probably not worth the savings. But if you pay a little more on the premium to a company that has a proven track record of good customer service, this can save you many headaches in the future. It's definitely worth the extra expense.

Compare Add-On Services

You might also benefit if the online car insurance company offers additional services such as mutual fund programs and other investment opportunities. You will have one company handling your insurance and investments, making it easy to keep track of your records.

When looking for auto insurance online, consider all the factors and services included in the car insurance quotes being offered. Don't go for price only, but compare companies and services for what they're worth. You'll be happier and have peace of mind when you actually need to take advantage of your car insurance policy.

Lady Drivers Can Make Savings On Their Car Insurance

by: Louis Rix

Unfortunately your sex can make a huge difference to the amount of car insurance that you pay. Women drivers while having been the brunt of many jokes, particularity from male drivers, can in fact get cheaper car insurance than men.

Statistics have shown that women are indeed safer drivers than men, this is because women have been proven to make less claims than men do on their insurance. They also usually go for much less flashier cars than men choose, instead going for the more reserved and what is classed as the safer car.

There are many online companies now taking advantage of this fact and as such are offering deals specifically aimed at the women driver. Lady drivers can now search online for companies aimed at them and by doing so they can make huge savings on the amount of premiums they pay for car insurance.

However, there are other factors that determine how cheap you get your car insurance, regardless of your sex. The best, cheapest and quickest way to look for your car insurance is by doing so online. By looking online for your car insurance you are able to get instant quotes from many companies which ensures that you choose the cheapest deal possible.

Policy features and benefits and the cost of car insurance does vary from company to company and all policies have exclusions hidden within them so it is essential that you understand just what is included in the quote.

Other factors which are taken into account include the area in which you live. Depending on your postcode you can be charged a higher premium for your car insurance. While there isn't much you can do to change this you can make sure you have the best security features installed on your car, by doing so you can help to reduce the premium.

Car Insurance: Protect Your Assets

by: Millard Hiner

We all need to make the important decision about which car insurance we'll choose for our car. These days, not only do we need to find appropriate insurance for the vehicle we drive, but it is also required by law in almost every country. As a result, you need to make sure you keep the expiry date of your car insurance in mind.

Now, when it comes to car insurance, the other important matter is selecting an appropriate and reliable company that provides car insurance. In some countries, there are only state-owned automobile insurance companies that are allowed to offer car insurance (http://www.carinsurance-4.info/) to customers whereas in several other countries in the world, there are lots of insurance companies in the private sector too dealing in automobile insurance.

With this in mind, it is essential you choose a reliable company that offers competitive premiums for its auto policy. You'll also want to make sure the company is fair and effective if you should need to make a claim for accidental repairs, or any other insurance claims that may arise. It is at times such as these that you'll need to depend on your insurance company, which is why choosing wisely is so important.

Cheap auto insurance (http://www.carinsurance-4.info/) is something of a gamble. On one hand, the expense of car insurance is considerable and a factor that cannot be ignored. A company that can provide low rates and high levels of customer service may be an excellent selection. However, if the company does not do a good job of following up on policyholders' claims, cheap auto insurance (http://www.carinsurance-4.info/) may do nothing more than illustrate the adage that you get what you pay for.

Another key feature of an automobile insurance policy is the online insurance (http://www.re-greatfalls.com/grtflls/36711-car-insurancecheap-auto.php) availability or lack of it. This feature is the most important for professionals, especially if their jobs include lots of travelling assignments. In such cases, access to online insurance becomes very convenient so that the customers can get extensions of their policies and make premium payments online, saving much time.

Life insurance is meant to protect our assets and, perhaps more importantly, our piece of mind in case of disaster. The knowledge that there is a large financial company looking out for you in times of trouble provides a sense of security at a time that is naturally highly emotionally fraught. If you can choose the right life insurance policy, then you can relax knowing that emergencies will be taken care of.

About The Author
Everyone needs to decide on what kind of car insurance (http://www.carinsurance-4.info/) to purchase. Availability of different kinds of policies varies by state, with some companies being private and others public. Wherever you live, you must pay attention to the company's reliability: do they pay their claims fairly and promptly? A cheap auto insurance (http://www.carinsurance-4.info/Car-Insurance Information/36445-car-insurancecheap-auto.php) carrier may give poor service. You may also want to think about whether being able to manage online insurance (http://www.carinsurance-4.info/Car-Insurance Information/36445-car-insurancecheap-auto.php) issues is important to you, since not every carrier offers this. For everyone, good insurance is a source of peace of mind in today's busy world.

RV and Auto Insurance Basic tips

By Mark Polk

There is a great deal of overlap between RV and auto policies. If you have a motorized RV, you will need some of the same coverage’s provided by an auto policy plus specialized RV coverage's. I will attempt to explain a few things to consider without confusing you.

Regardless of the insurance company you decide to use, there are a handful of basic coverage’s you will need to have in your policy. Again, this coverage is very similar, if not identical, to the coverage you have on your personal auto insurance policy. This coverage can be broken down into two different categories; liability and physical damage. All motorized RV’s will have some form of liability coverage. Towable RV’s like travel trailers and 5th wheel trailers do not have any liability coverage. However, if you own a travel trailer or 5th wheel the section on liability may contain information helpful to you regarding the vehicle you use to tow your trailer.

There are many things to consider, here are just a few:

Liability Coverage

There are a number of coverage’s that fall under the category of liability coverage including Bodily Injury, Property Damage, Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury, Underinsured Motorist, Uninsured Motorist Property Damage, Personal Injury Protection and Medical Payments. Some of these coverage’s vary by state.

Note: The Department of Insurance in the state you live in can be an excellent resource for additional information regarding state specific coverage’s. Most states offer a Consumer Buyer’s Guide on their website that will explain state specific nuances to each of these coverage’s.

Bodily Injury is third party coverage. This means it provides protection for claims due to injuries to a passenger in your vehicle (other than you or a family member) or passengers in another vehicle, or pedestrians. It provides you, the owner/operator of a motor vehicle, with protection for your legal liability due to the ownership, maintenance or use of your RV. It is very important to select a limit that is high enough to protect your assets. You may be responsible for any amounts, related to injuries received to the third party, over and above the limit on your insurance policy. You can also purchase a separate umbrella policy that sits over all of your liability limits on your cars, your house and your motorized RV.

Property Damage is also a third party coverage, and provides protection for claims due to damage to other people’s property. For example, Property Damage would pay to repair damage to the bumper of a car that you rear-end in an accident. Bodily Injury and Property Damage limits typically work together and can be either a split limit or a combined single limit. A typical split limit has a different limit for damages to each person, each accident and property damage. For example, a common split limit would be $100,000/$300,000/$50,000. This means that for Bodily Injury coverage you have a maximum limit of $100,000 per person for each person injured not to exceed $300,000 per accident and a $50,000 limit for Property Damage. A common single limit for Bodily Injury and Property Damage is $300,000 meaning you have $300,000 to pay for all injuries and property damage arising from any one accident. It can be split any which way between injured parties and damaged property. Bodily Injury and Property Damage are required for all motorized RV’s. For travel trailers and 5th wheel trailers liability follows the unit towing the trailer, so Bodily Injury and Property Damage coverage’s are not necessary.

Uninsured Motorists (UM) and Underinsured Motorists (UIM) coverage’s can be first or third party coverage’s. UM provides protection for injuries you or someone else sustains in an accident due to the fault of another party when the at-fault party does not have any insurance. UIM provides protection for injuries you or someone else sustain in an accident due to the fault of another party when the at-fault party does have insurance, but not enough insurance to cover your damages. UM and UIM are sold on a split limit and combined single limit basis, just like Bodily Injury and Property Damage.

Your RV insurance can and should fit your RV. To get a free RV insurance quote with absolutely no obligation, I recommend Explorer RV Insurance Agency, Inc. you can call 1-888-774-6778.

Ever Wondered What An Auto Insurance Claim Adjuster Does?

By Peter Crump

An auto insurance claim adjuster works for the insurance company with whom you purchase a policy. Some insurance companies use independent adjusters so that they get an unbiased report. When you have an accident and make a claim on your insurance, the company will send out an adjuster to access the damages and come up with an amount of money that will be needed to complete the repairs. The auto insurance claim adjuster has to contact the garages to get an estimate of what the parts and labor will cost.

When you report a claim for an accident to your auto insurance, they will contact the appropriate adjuster. The auto insurance adjuster assigned to your case will contact you to get the details on where he/she can assess the vehicle. Then you will receive a report from the insurance company regarding the assessment the auto insurance claim adjuster submits. If the damages exceed the value of the vehicle, it will be “written off”.

The amount you get on your auto insurance policy depends on the policy itself. If the auto insurance claim adjuster determines that the vehicle is written off, the insurance will pay you the book value of the vehicle. This could be more or less than what the car is worth. With some auto insurance policies, you can pay extra to have a clause included stating that if the vehicle is written off within the first two years, you get the full amount that you paid for the automobile.

There is a certain process that an auto insurance claim adjuster has to use to come up with the amount the insurance company will pay. You will usually get two quotes – one that will see the car getting repaired at a top of the line garage and another if you take a cash settlement on the claim and get the work done yourself. The auto insurance adjuster knows that many people have friends who can do the work cheaper and often take the money.

Once you decide how you want to proceed, the insurance company will issue a check. If you are paying on the vehicle, the check will be made out jointly to you and the lender. Otherwise the check comes directly to you. The job of the auto insurance adjuster is only to access the damages, Any dispute you have regarding the report made by the auto insurance claim adjuster has to be done through the insurance company. Keep this in mind because the adjuster is only an ordinary person like yourself trying to make a living.

An auto insurance claim adjuster doesn’t have an easy job.
